    OSHA Regulations require that permanent aisles and passageways must be marked. ANSI Z535.2 Safety Color Code designates yellow as the caution color. This should be used for marking physical hazards such as stumbling, falling or tripping points. Painted lines tend to chip, peel and crack, especially in heavy traffic areas. Industrial Floor Marking Tapes are recognized as the most convenient and inexpensive way to mark floors, and there are a variety of floor marking tapes available to meet your specific needs.
  • Aisle Width
    OSHA requires aisles and passageways have "sufficient safe clearances" where mechanical equipment is used. The width necessry will vary depending upon how the aisle is utilized in the workplace. Aisle ways that have truck and forklift traffic need to be wider than aisles for pedestrian traffic. An average size is 36 inches. Additionally, aisle ways inside storage rooms containing flammable and combustible liquid must be at least three feet wide. Emergency exit access points have a minimum allowed width of 28 inches.
  • Tape Width
    The minimum allowable width for facility aisle and floor marking lines is 2 inches. Any width above that is considered acceptable by OSHA and ANSI. Typical applications use tape in 2 inches to-6 inches wide.
